I just got the blackberry curve 8300 in november and i am going to Italy in a couple of weeks. Will it work over there?

You need to be more specific. If you are going to be using your existing SIM from your current carrier you will need to check the following : A) Contact your carrier to verify if they have a roaming agreement with any carriers in Italy. B) If they do, request to have International Roaming applied to your service so it will work while you are there.
