Are there any Cell phone compaines that won't work in Italy

Are there any Cell phone compaines that won't work in Italy?
I'm looking to buy a new phone within the next week. I'm going to Italy for a month in December. Are there any cell phones that will not work in Italy ? (My phone will be a prepaid phone, I don't do contracts.)

You need an unlocked quadband or better gsm sim card type phone. You buy an Italian prepaid sim and pop it in. It should work fine. American only dualband phones won't work as even if they are unlocked the two primary gsm frequencies in Italy/EU are not available in the US. US gsm frequencies are 850/1900. Italy/EU is 900/1800.
